GALVATECH
HELPS STEADY SYDNEY
In strong winds, the top of Sydney's
Centrepoint Tower can oscillate up to 130mm from side to side. The safety
and comfort of sightseers and restaurant patrons is assured by two damper
systems.
One of these consists of seven concentric
steel rings, made up of 70 segments' which were all hot-dip galvanised
by Galvatech. This coating, chosen for its long life, also ensured the
necessary abrasion-resistance to prevent coating damage during assembly
of the 40 tonnes of steel high above Pitt Street.
Other Galvatech contributions to major
public infrastructure include:
- Galvanising of special cross-arms for
Sydney Electricity to support more than 4,100km of electricity transmission
lines in the Darling Electrification Project
- Galvanising of street furniture and fittings
for a wide range of government authorities
- Galvanising of steelwork for freeway noise barriers and
highway guardrails.
